MED EL is the leading European Cochlear Implant company, producing approximately 5000 implants per annum. Since its founders developed one of the world's first cochlear implants in 1975, MED EL has set new standards in hearing implant technologies, developing and manufacturing technologically advanced hearing solutions for people with varying degrees of hearing loss.
MED EL is a partner in the previous EU-Bioear project (EU BioEar QLG3-CT-2002-01563) and maintains a large active academic R&D (> 65) unit, and has links to many universities. The company holds/has applied for a number of patents relating to various aspects of CI development, including drug delivery. It is continuing to develop novel multi-channel implants and novel cochlear implant systems. The company created its own drug delivery team internally 6 years ago.
