Description of Partner

The team has always been the reference institution in the Emilia Romagna Region for all hearing and vestibular disorders, speech disorders and rehabilitation, otologic surgery including cochlear implants, implantable prosthesis and cerebello-pontin angle tumors. For the last 15 years there has been conducted a neonatal screening with first grade follow-up for early diagnosis of hearing disorders with electrophysiological equipment. It is a well founded research institute and it offers several facilities, equipment and well trained personnel (about 15 people). Several collaborations have been established both in Italy and in Europe and United States. At the Audiology Dept. of the University of Ferrara has coordinated previous EC funded project on genetic hearing impairment (HEAR and the ongoing GENDEAF), which were very successful projects in establishing networks of collaboration between centers involved in genetic hearing disorders. The team has participated in 6 EU-projects, as coordinator of the European Concerted Action HEAR (1996-1999), the accompanying measure REGENEAR, and is the Scientific Coordinator of the GENDEAF European Thematic Network (see http://www.gendeaf.org). He is also currently involved as a partner in the in the AHEAD II Thematic Network and in the BIOEAR project. The role: In vitro assay for MFNPs toxicity, related degradation products and release of toxic drugs.
